Bio:
• after 12 years, 11 kids, two ex-wives, six albums, the band's first trip to Texas and SXSW
Moviola makes dusty, country & folk-soul from fly-over territory (Columbus), Ohio. Formed over a decade ago. Six albums ranging from fuzz-pop to lush country. Few live performances. Five songwriters and singers in one band. Eleven kids, five wives, and two ex-wives. New record "East of Eager" was called "an indie Big Pink" (Harp). Friends Scotty Tabachnick, Jake Housh, Jerry Dannemiller, Ted Hattemer, and recent addition Greg Bonnell have been together for over ten years. They've made six records by themselves in self-built studios, that normal Joes, record shop nerds, rodeo sweethearts, and wayward fans of Kristofferson, the Louvin Brothers, and Spacemen 3 from Amarillo to Amsterdam hold close like a secret. Split singles with everyone from The Handsome Family to Cobra Verde. And vivé la difference: in this band everyone writes, everyone takes a turn singing lead--a five-headed beast of the finest order.
"Moviola are that rare and notoriously unstable entity—a band whose identity is the blurry combination of five individual voices, rather than a kingpin or two and their helpers. (What's more...) they've sidestepped the traps and girdles of the alt-country nation—or any other tribe—in favor of forging their own route, casually beautiful and always believable." -- David Greenberger (NPR)
